تتميّز المملكة المتحدة لبريطانيا العظمى وأيرلندا الشمالية بدستور غير مدوّن تشكّل عبر قرون من معاهدات الاتحاد والوثائق التاريخية الأساسية، ومنها الماغنا كارتا وعريضة الحقوق وقانون المثول أمام القضاء ووثيقة الحقوق وقانون التسوية، فضلاً عن القوانين العادية والقانون العام والأعراف الدستورية. تتتبّع هذه الدراسة نشأة الدولة البريطانية وتوضح كيف تسهم الذاكرة الجماعية، أكثر من سلطة تأسيسية واحدة، في تحديد القواعد ذات القيمة الدستورية. ثم تبحث مصادر القانون الدستوري الداخلية وفوق الوطنية ومبادئ النظام الأساسية: العقلانية التجريبية، وسيادة القانون وفق تصور دايسي، وسيادة البرلمان التي يحدّ من نطاقها العملي نفوذ مجلس الوزراء. وتعرض مؤسسات الدولة—التاج والبرلمان بغرفتيه والحكومة ورئيس الوزراء—وحماية الحقوق الأساسية غير المدوّنة. وتتناول أخيراً تحديات خروج بريطانيا من الاتحاد الأوروبي وأزمات الثقة بالمؤسسات. وتخلص إلى وجود نظام مرن وقادر على الصمود، إلا أن غياب نص دستوري موحّد يبقي التوتر قائماً بين الأعراف التقليدية والمطالبة بقواعد مكتوبة أوضح.
